Street crimes, in particular robberies on public transportation, are truly an everyday event in Guatemala. According to PrensaLibre, Guatemala’s most circulated daily newspaper, 30,200 urban bus robberies occurred during the first 5 months of 2006 (1). These numbers are equivalent to roughly 200 bus robberies per day.
