2006-11: Arlington West Memorial
Los Angeles. California, U.S.A.
November 12, 2006.
Issues: Iraq War / Protest
Every Sunday since February 15th, 2004, the Los Angeles chapter of Veterans for Peace (VFP) has been erecting a temporary memorial just north of the Santa Monica Pier. Each cross in the simulated cemetery represents a fallen U.S. serviceman in Iraq. Such memorial is known as the Arlington West Memorial, in reference to the Arlington Memorial Cemetery located in Washington D.C.
The following photographs were taken on November 12, 2006, during the weekend celebration of Memorial Day. As of this day, the U.S. servicemen death toll in Iraq stands at 2,845, roughly the same amount of casualties from the September 11th attacks.
